Testimonials:

Sheena M Bradley - Physiotherapist: "I received a first class service from Mobile Diagnostics. Having suffered knee pain for a couple of months, I telephoned MD on a Monday afternoon, received an appointment for the following evening and came away with a full report and a copy of my MRI scan on c.d. Everyone was friendly and helpful and all at a very affordable price. I'll certainly be recommending MD."

Bob Barnes, Proprietor Cambridge Lakes Golf Course:

"I was immediately attracted to Mobile Diagnostics' advertisement (in The Cambridge Evening News) and thought that the value for money, ease of booking, location and service were all excellent.

As a 61 year old I have had sports related hip problems for over 25 years.

My recent Mobile Diagnostic MRI scan showed very clearly the degeneration in the hip joint & for the first time I have been able to adjust my activities & exercises with absolute certainty as to the source of the problem.

I am delighted to recommend Mobile Diagnostics to anybody who has had similar experiences."

J. E. from Southport

"I have no problem recommending Mobile Diagnostics based on the excellent service I received.

From the start, the telephone service was friendly and knowledgeable; the price was clear and not ramped up with hidden charges. The actual MRI procedure was done in the same professional and still friendly manner, on time, with no waiting in queues and with explanations, the only part I had to do was to keep still during the scan (for fairly obvious reasons) I was kept informed and made to feel comfortable throughout.

The results of the scan were quick and have been used to good effect."

What is an MRI scan?
MRI creates a magnetic field and produces detailed pictures of joints and soft tissue. There is no radiation as with other Radiographs or CT.

How will the scan help me?
If you have  pain or restricted movement in a joint then the MRI scan will generally find the cause of this problem.  This will allow your health professional to advise on the best treatment. For example, if pain in the knee is shown to be due to a damaged meniscus (joint cartilage) then referral to an orthopaedic surgeon may be recommended.  Alternatively, the scan may indicate that manipulation, medication, or other non surgical treatment is appropriate. Whilst the MRI scan may indicate why a course of treatment has been unsuccessful, it is generally better to make an exact diagnosis before any treatment is started.

What should I expect?
Mobile Diagnostics utilises only the latest open technology for scanning.  This means that the scanner is open in design, and avoids the problem of claustrophobia which may arise in the traditional closed design, where the patient is enclosed in a relatively narrow tube.

On arrival for your scan you will be greeted by the radiographer or assistant, who will explain the procedure for the scan.  You will then be asked several safety questions; there are a few situations where an MRI scan cannot be performed (particularly when there is a cardiac pacemaker, and when there has been certain types of neurosurgery in the past).

The scan itself will involve lying on a scan couch within the scanner for about 20 minutes, whilst the pictures are obtained.  It is important to keep still during the scan. The scanner is very quiet in operation and you may doze off while you are being scanned.

There are no known side-effects to an MRI scan and you will not feel anything whilst you are being scanned.  Once the scan has been completed the pictures will be forwarded to a specialist consultant radiologist for interpretation and the results will then be forwarded to the health professional who referred you for the scan.

How can I obtain a scan?
The first step is to visit your health professional (general practitioner, osteopath, chiropractor, club physiotherapist etc) who will take a clinical history and examine you, to try to establish the cause of your symptoms. He or she will advise whether or not MRI will be helpful and can refer you to Mobile Diagnostics for a scan (see the referrer's page) if a scan is appropriate.

How much will it cost?

A single region scan (e.g. knee) will cost £350. Any additional part will be £175 per area. Student discounts apply. Non insured patients are charged £250

A small charge is added if films are required.

Included in the cost is a CD for your referrer and the report from an experienced consultant Radiologist with a special interest in joint disease.

Mobile Diagnostics is recognized by Axa PPP, BUPA and Norwich Union.

VAT is only chargeable for Medicolegal examinations.
